The provincial Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha is today meeting with the taxi industry leadership, as well as their counterparts in the bus industry, to find a solution to attacks on both local and long-distance buses, allegedly by taxi operators. Committee members are in the process of compiling their draft preliminary report. The committee was established to investigate concerns over national security.

A massive Mandrax operation has been uncovered at a secluded smallholding in Erasmia, west of Pretoria. Police say the suspected laboratory had the capacity to produce up to 800-thousand tablets a day. Two foreign nationals have been arrested, while investigators are now on underway to discover the alleged masterminds behind the operation. Musa Mhlongo reports.

Researchers at the University of the Free State say more could have been done to prevent the Jargersfontein mine dam wall collapse. The disaster claimed three lives and destroyed more than a hundred homes. 11 September marks four years since the tragedy occurred in 2022.
