The eThekwini Municipality's multi-billion Rand integrated public transport system is set to commence later this year after 16 years of delays. Mayor Cyril Xaba announced that the city has resolved disagreements with taxi operators, allowing for the city to start rolling out the Go! National Chairperson of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and PR Councillor in the City of Johannesburg, Yongama Zigebe, has been announced as the party's mayoral candidate for Johannesburg in the November Local Government Elections. Zigebe previously served as the UDM's National Secretary-General. The announcement was made by the party's Deputy President, Nqabayomzi Nkwankwa, in Alexandra today. Nkwankwa has encouraged Zigebe to take the UDM's message to communities across the city, saying the party is ready to listen, work and govern. Sibahle Motha reports...

Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, David Maynier, has expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in the recovery of the infrastructure that was damaged by the floods in January. Several roads, bridges, and rest camps were seriously damaged. The total extent of the damage was estimated at 950 million Rand. Minister Maynier officiated the handover of projects completed, such as the bridge on the Lower Sabie Road. Mthobisi Mkhaliphi reports....

The Gauteng Education Department has warned parents against paying money to anyone promising to secure school placements for their children. The Department says it received more than 800-thousand online admissions applications for Grades 1 and 8 for the 2027 academic year. The online admissions application closed at midnight on Friday last week. Education MEC -- Lebogang Maile -- says learner placement cannot be bought, and those attempting to manipulate the process will face consequences. He was briefing the media in Johannesburg on Sunday.
