The Mopani District Municipal Council has resolved to dismiss its Chief Financial Officer, Sibongile Mathebula, following a formal disciplinary hearing into allegations of financial misconduct. INTRO: Day 62 of the Madlanga Commission saw suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya put his version of events at the Inquiry. General Sibiya is at the centre of corruption allegations at the Madlanga Commission for his alleged close links to members of the criminal cartel. He has also been accused of aiding the disbandment of the PKTT for ulterior motives. The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner testified about the disbandment of the PKTT and the 121 dockets and the kidnapping of Pretoria Businessman Jerry Boshoga.

The commission launched its Tertiary Institution Campaign at Taletso College, in Lehurutshe in the North West, to encourage new students to partake in the elections by registering electronically. The IEC says they are concerned about voter apathy amongst young people, with the local government election taking place later this year.

The state President Cyril Ramaphosa has approved a category two official provincial funeral for the late hosi Phylia N'wamitwa II. Hosi N'wamitwa II of the Valoyi clan outside Tzaneen in Limpopo, passed away after an illness last week. She is the first female chief among the Vatsonga/Machangana to ascend the throne in August 2008. She had challenged the patriarchal system in the Constitutional Court. She will be laid to rest at N'wamitwa on Sunday. Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has welcomed the president's declaration for official funeral for hosi N'wamitwa II.
