South Africa's Cultural, Creative and Sports Industries support an estimated 1.4 million jobs and contribute roughly 3.9% to national GDP, with Amapiano, African fashion, dance, film and visual storytelling increasingly shaping global pop culture. South Africa was also responsible for 78.1% of Sub-Saharan Africa's recorded music revenue in 2025, with the country's music market growing 12.9%. But as we celebrate Heritage Month, the bigger question is not just whether we are inspiring the world. It is whether Africans are building the industry infrastructure to own, preserve and profit from the culture we create.

Joining the show to speak to exactly that is Director Cube, founder of Kacube Creatives, an award-winning Durban-born video director, creative director, producer, artist and entrepreneur from Newlands East. With a directing portfolio that connects him to Burna Boy, Wizkid, Chris Brown, DJ Maphorisa, Busiswa and more, and international recognition for Best Music Video in Ghana, Director Cube is already competing on the world stage. The South African Police Service has confirmed the dismissal of suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan after he failed to appear before a designated senior officer overseeing an expedited disciplinary process, bringing one chapter of this saga to a close while many questions remain unanswered.

Meanwhile, former Hawks head Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya has told the commission he had no knowledge of the alleged "Big Five" organised crime cartel, a claim that raised immediate eyebrows given his seniority and the scale of the networks allegedly involved. The commission is also scrutinising communication between Malcolm X and Lebeya around the arrest of Katiso Molefe, including references to a figure known as "King Nyambose," with Lebeya insisting his involvement was simply about verifying whether people at the scene were legitimate police officers.

The testimony raises serious and uncomfortable questions about intelligence sharing, police accountability and possible links between organised crime and law enforcement officials at the highest levels.
