The South African Police Service has confirmed the dismissal of suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan after he failed to appear before a designated senior officer overseeing an expedited disciplinary process, bringing one chapter of this saga to a close while many questions remain unanswered.

Meanwhile, former Hawks head Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya has told the commission he had no knowledge of the alleged "Big Five" organised crime cartel, a claim that raised immediate eyebrows given his seniority and the scale of the networks allegedly involved. The commission is also scrutinising communication between Malcolm X and Lebeya around the arrest of Katiso Molefe, including references to a figure known as "King Nyambose," with Lebeya insisting his involvement was simply about verifying whether people at the scene were legitimate police officers.
