Dr. Olivia Ong is a Melbourne-based rehabilitation and pain medicine physician, author and speaker whose personal story has profoundly shaped her career. In 2008, while working as a young doctor, Olivia was struck by a car in a hospital car park, sustaining a spinal cord injury that left her paraplegic. Told she may never walk again, she underwent years of rehabilitation, including treatment in the United States, eventually regaining the ability to walk and returning to medicine. Today, Olivia combines clinical expertise and lived experience to explore chronic pain, resilience, burnout, self-compassion and recovery. Her memoir, Back on My Feet, was published in 2026. This was interesting, inspiring and funny. Loved it.
