And if we don't write our own story, one will be written despite us - not because of us - and instead of being the author we become a character playing a role in someone or something else's story. According to David Gillespie, artificial and "sugar-free" sweeteners are not the harmless alternatives we've been led to believe they are. Of course you’re not surprised. In fact, they're really sh*t. Scientifically speaking. Apparently, they hijack the brain's expectation of energy, leading to increased hunger and overeating, and may also disrupt gut health and metabolism. More recent compounds - like sugar alcohols and "keto" sweeteners - are framed as potentially more dangerous, with emerging research suggesting links to blood clots and cardiovascular risk. The core message in this episode is that there's no "free lunch" in biology - sweetness without energy comes with consequences. Which is personally very annoying, 'cause I inhale that sh*t. Sorry to disappoint you. I’ll try harder.

Gotta say I was in brand new territory with this conversation and this guest and honestly, I loved it and her. I felt somewhat unprepared and unqualified (just a feeling) but the gift for me was that I got to ask a bunch of questions that I didn't know the answers to (at all). My eyes were opened a little, I learned brand new stuff (always good) and I got to explore a different area of the human experience (for me) through the insights and stories of someone who's been on a wild ride. Perfect. Our guest Daviana Memont, used to be Dave - a Marine, Diesel Mechanic, Jacked Bro, National level powerlifter (6ft, 250lbs) and husband. I can guarantee that most of you will be surprised by her attitude towards when (and if) people should be able to transition, the pronoun thing, her issues with the LGBTQ+ community and lots more. Strap in, it's a ride.
