 Last week President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled King Shaka’s statue at KwaZulu-Natal’s King Shaka International Airport. He said that the AmaZulu King’s legacy of a statesman and unifier is still relevant for present-day South Africa. The 11 metre high statue took 14 years in the making, as the initial aim was to have a statue honouring King Shaka at the airport during the 2010 soccer World Cup. Interestingly, we received a voice note from one of our listeners asking about the true history of King Shaka and whether the Zulu nation was named by him or came after his death?
