Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga, says that the inaugural Gender Based Violence study, has given insight into how people in different types of relationships experience gender based violence. She was reacting to the findings of a study released on Monday by the Human Sciences Research Council(HSRC)- which revealed that more than seven- million South African women, have experienced physical and emotional violence in their lifetime. One of the highlights was also that 70% of South African men would like to see the women in their lives to obey them. So we are using this hour now to find out how we should interpret this report seeing that we are in 2024, and how do we balance cultural, societal and religious norms that dictate how we man should consent.
