In a recent article, the Johannesburg Art Gallery has been found crumbling and various artwork worth millions damaged after years of neglect. The Johannesburg Art Gallery belongs to the people and is currently under the custodianship of the City of Johannesburg. The Johannesburg Art Gallery is also the richest art collection on the African continent. Heritage experts, art practitioners and civil society organizations have raised concerns on the gross neglect of this building and have submitted a proposal to the city to salvage the cultural heritage of the 9000 art pieces that should be accessible to the public.
