Professor Srila Roy is a professor of Sociology at Wits University and she joins us this morning to talk about the status of women and children in South Africa. You may be aware that we are now in the period of 16 Days of activism against the abuse of women and children also we are coming to the end of Children’s Month. Not so long ago, the Human Sciences Research Council released a shocking report that revealed an increasing pattern of gender-based violence against women aged 18 to 24, perpetrated by men with whom they are not romantically involved. Almost every day in the news bulletin, there’s a story about a child harmed or woman killed, what does it say about our country? Professor Roy joins us to share her views and also the work she does at Wits….
