Patti & Michael Discuss The Gut-Brain Axis (Rebroadcast)

View descriptionShare

Did you know that there is a connection between the brain and the GI tract? This gut-brain axis communicates information in both directions. The commensal bacteria in our gut and their metabolites can directly affect our memory and mood, while our brain can alter bacterial patterns and GI function.

Today we discuss some of the mechanisms by which this axis sends and receives those signals. We also talk about the importance of addressing both when optimizing health.

Today on The Lab Report:

  • 2:30 New Game Alert!  Vegetablization of names
  • 4:05 Question of the Day/Fireball:

  • 6:45 What is the gut-brain axis?
  • 8:10 Communication mechanisms from the GI tract to the brain
  • 13:20 How the brain affects the gut
