Professor Brij Maharaj has been appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to serve on South Africa’s National Dialogue Steering Committee, representing the Faith-Based Organisations sector. This National Dialogue is envisioned as a citizen-led, society-wide process aimed at forging a new social compact for our country - one grounded in inclusion, unity, and shared purpose. Professor Maharaj is a distinguished academic from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a respected researcher, and a long-standing community leader whose work spans social justice, ethical engagement, and social cohesion. He also serves in leadership roles within the faith and interfaith space, including the South African Hindu Maha Sabha.
