Lenasia, also commonly known as Lenz, is a suburb on the south of Soweto in Gauteng. The township was established in the mid-1950s by the all-White National Party as a “group area” for “Indians” in terms of the Group Areas Act, which was the cornerstone of the apartheid system. Lenasia has since changed into a non-racial community. We reflect on Lenasia's rich history with Ismail Vadi, Agsie Pillay, Zarina Motala and Mickey Padiachee.
