 As South Africa prepares to commemorate Human Rights Day, we reflect not only on the broader struggle for freedom, but also on the communities that carried that struggle - communities like Merebank. A place shaped by forced removals, political activism, cultural diversity, and a deep-rooted sense of identity. Merebank has always been more than just a place. It’s a story. And now, that story is being documented and re-imagined through the Merebank Book Project.

Merebank: A Community’s Legacy of Struggle, Strength and Storytelling

Today is World Kidney Day, a global campaign that raises awareness about the importance of our kidneys and how to keep them healthy. Our kidneys are remarkable organs, but despite the crucial role they play, kidney disease is often called a “silent condition” because symptoms may only appear once the damage is already advanced. Many of the risk factors – including high blood pressure, diabetes and poor diet – are closely linked to the choices we make every day.
