Why We Need to Play Again: Movement as Medicine with Darryl Edwards

View descriptionShare

What if the secret to becoming healthier wasn’t exercising harder but learning how to play again?

In this episode of the Six Hats Podcast, Dr Shami sits down with Darryl Edwards, movement coach, author, international speaker and founder of the Primal Play Method®.

Darryl’s own story is remarkable. After spending almost two decades working in investment-banking technology and living an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, he began rethinking his relationship with exercise and movement.

That journey eventually led him to create Primal Play, an approach that combines movement, play and functional fitness to make physical activity something we actually want to do.

Today, his work brings together exercise physiology, evolutionary biology, neuroscience and the psychology of play. His work has also expanded into lifestyle medicine, healthy ageing and exercise oncology.

In this conversation, we explore why so many of us struggle to exercise consistently, what modern life has taken away from the way humans naturally move, and why joy may be one Why adults stop playing and what we lose when we do
