Chicago a cappella, Chicago’s premier unaccompanied vocal ensemble is hosting the upcoming concert series Building American Pop from April 19th-26th. Andrea talks to CAC Executive Director Matt Greenberg about this time capsule, which revisits the irresistible pop classics that evoke the songwriting genius of the Brill Building era of the 1950s and ’60s, featuring host/narrator WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer. Next up, the Chicago Jazz Orchestra will feature the music of jazz icon Roy Eldridge on May 3rd at the Studebaker Theatre. Finally, Andrea talks to Chicago interdisciplinary artist Alison Ruttan about her large-scale exhibition at Hyde Park Art Center through July 12. Two years in the making, the exhibition is a massive installation with 160 cast ceramic forms, taking up 2300 sq. ft., and places viewers at the center of a submerged neighborhood to show the damage of global warming on coastal communities.
