Ukraine, the United States, and Russia have discussed the creation of buffer zones and mechanisms to monitor them — that's according to Russian sources — as trilateral talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine continue in Abu Dhabi. This is the first time the three sides are meeting in such a format, following several rounds of separate talks earlier this week.  The discussions are seen as a modest but noteworthy step, held on the instructions of the three presidents and after months of shuttle diplomacy. Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi says the province will avail its best resources to tackle challenges faced by the residents of Sporong, in Randfontein. Lesufi has assured the community that they will be moved from the local community hall within a week. This as hundreds of residents from the informal settlement were forced to flee their homes to seek refuge at the hall after allegedly suffering violence and intimidation at the hands of illegal miners since last year. Sporong residents forcibly displaced by zama zamas still in the lurch

Gauteng Transport MEC, Kedibone Dialle Thlabela says every road user is bound by the rules of the country's roads and the private scholar transport operators are no exception. Thlabela was speaking during a government operation which led to the impoundment of over 60 unroadworthy, unlicensed and overloaded scholar transport vehicles in the south of Johannesburg. The operation comes as 14 Gauteng families prepare to lay their children to rest after their scholar transport vehicle attempted to overtake a number of cars before colliding with a truck earlier this week.  Speaking during a joint media briefing on the preliminary investigations into the crash, Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, outlined steps being taken amid mounting pressure for government to reform the sector.
