Fraud and corruption case involving Crime Intelligence Head, Dumisani Khumalo, and six co-accused has been postponed to the third of September in the Pretoria Magistrates' Court. The case was postponed pending the outcome of representations made to the National Director of Public Prosecutions. The accused allegedly appointed an unqualified civilian within the SAPS Crime Intelligence Division. Advocate Mohomane for Northwest businessman Brown Mogotsi has argued at the Madlanga Commission that repeated interactions between Chief Evidence Leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson and Mogotsi created strained relations and raised concerns about impartiality. Mohomane questioned why Chaskalson continued engaging with Mogotsi after previously labelling him a liar during testimony. Commission chairperson Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga challenged the argument, saying corroboration of information would naturally follow after receiving it. ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party's National Executive Committee has reaffirmed its full support for ANC President and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, dismissing speculation about his possible recall or resignation. Briefing the media after the NEC meeting, Mbalula said Ramaphosa's mandate from ANC branches and South African voters remains intact until the party's next national conference in 2027. He stressed that neither the recent constitutional court judgment nor ongoing parliamentary processes would disrupt government operations or the work of the Government of National Unity. ANC officials were earlier briefing the media at the Luthuli House in Johannesburg, following the party's Special National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened to deliberate on organizational and national matters of importance. Eleven suspects, including five Mexican nationals, have briefly appeared before the Swartruggens Magistrates Court in the North West following a major intelligence-led raid on an alleged methamphetamine production site. Police say the bust uncovered precursor chemicals and equipment linked to large-scale drug manufacturing. The matter has been postponed to 22 May for immigration verification and interpreter arrangements, with a bail application also expected on that date.
