Imagine if a screenwriter wrote a plot like this: Some dude goes on a trial medication, but it causes a brain seizure, and he collapses... when he wakes up, he develops a peculiar cognitive condition in which he believes that his partner of two decades and mother of his children is an imposter. Yep, this brown-eyed, brunette-haired human is simply masquerading as his blue-eyed, dark-haired life partner of over 20 years... crazy stuff, right!?

I mean, any screenwriter would have to be on some serious hallucinogenic substances to come up with such a story! Except for Abi. She penned it, but it's no creative fiction screenplay... it's her book. Her memoir, in fact, titled "This Is Not A Pity Memoir." And that's not all, amidst all of this unfolding, Abi faced down breast cancer, adding another layer to her journey.

In our conversation, we delve into the cathartic experience of simultaneously being within and chronicling such a remarkable tale. She contemplates the question of ownership: Whose story is it… Jacob's or Abi's? Through it I was also personally drawn to profound contemplation about the nature of love (what even is it), the complexities of forming relationships, and the delicate threads of trust and connection (and reconnection).

Abi is an accomplished screenwriter who has not only paved her way but has also acted as a guiding light for countless female screenwriters. Our chat also delves deeply into this aspect of her journey.
