The impact of loneliness is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, increasing the risk of death by 26%. It's also a precursor to dementia, heart disease, and depression. Surprisingly, the stigma and shame surrounding loneliness are even more prevalent than those associated with mental health.
