Lauren Mackenzie spent the vast majority of her life battling a severe eating disorder. From the age of 5 she recalls becoming body conscious and from the age of 9 developing an eating disorder. By Lauren's teenage years she was admitted to a facility where she unwillingly resided for 3 years, under the notion that she was being wrongly admitted and did not actually have a disorder at all. Lauren's weight at her height of 5'3" got down to a shocking 31kg.
Now managing a healthy weight and relationship with food Lauren is also armed with a relatively new diagnosis of autism, enlightening her as to some of her nuances around food, taste and texture and helping her develop self-awareness and self-understanding.
Today she shares her story with me in the hope that she'll be a resource for others who can relate to her experience.
