An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, is this week’s guest on the Real Health podcast as I give him and two of his staff a six-week fitness challenge and I ask you, the listeners, to also test yourself against the Taoiseach over the next six weeks.
“It was following on from the Operation Transformation Metabolic Age Test that I did and had me coming out at 53,” Leo Varadkar explained to me. “I’m actually 40 and I try to keep reasonably fit and wanted to find out where I’m doing well, what the problem might be and how I can deal with it.”
In my gym I tested the Taoiseach with how many sit-ups and press-ups he can do in a minute, as well as how fast he can run 1km on the treadmill, plus the length of time he can stay in the plank position.
Listen to the show to find out just how he did and why not see how you measure up? In six weeks’ time I will be testing the Taoiseach on the same stats and see if any improvements have been made.
It’s also a really fascinating interview with the leader of the country on how he manages his health and fitness with his extremely busy and stressful job, what his favourite type of exercise is, his struggles with weight issues, and how companies in Ireland can be doing more to help their own employees build health and fitness into their working lives.
