LISTEN: Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia says police must step up response efforts in regards to criminality resulting from illegal mining.
Cachalia alongside the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, and North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, visited the Bapo ba Mogale Traditional Council following a surge in illegal mining in Bapong village near Brits, in North West.
Police say 21 illegal miners have been arrested so far, with heavy machinery seized as investigations continue to identify those behind the operations.
Speaking during a media briefing earlier on, Minister Cachalia made these remarks.
