President Cyril Ramaphosa has formally agreed to pause the implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act. This decision comes as the government faces a wave of legal opposition from a broad coalition of healthcare stakeholders, industry bodies, and provincial authorities. By delaying the proclamation of any sections of the Act, the President has essentially placed the healthcare overhaul on hold until the judiciary can provide clarity on its legality.
