Calls for transparency on the National Lotteries Commission processes

View descriptionShare

Parks Tau, the Minister for Trade, Industry, and Commerce, appeared before a parliamentary committee on Tuesday amid growing pressure to address allegations of corruption, nepotism, and discrimination involving the National Lottery Commission (NLC). Recent reports have raised serious concerns about the NLC board and commissioner, as well as the process for awarding the next lottery license, valued at approximately R80 billion over eight years. This tender is among the largest in South Africa, attracting significant interest from both politicians and business figures. Insiders indicate that the NLC board will recommend two companies to Tau for a final decision. Thabiso Tema spoke with BOSA Deputy Leader & MP, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster.
