Reality star Scheana Shay talks 'The Masked Singer', new memoir and more!

On.

It's Mario Lopez. What's everyone? Mario Lopez joining me right now? The back from the current season of The Mass Singer Vanderbilt Rules stars Sheena Shaye.

How you doing, Sena. I'm so good. I'm still on a high. I'm like, did that happen? Pinch me? Was that a dream? It was so surreal and iconic, very proud of myself.

Yes, congratulations, that's very cool. Is it something you always wanted to do? Did they approach you? How did you? How did you fall into the Mass Singer?

No, it was not something I ever thought I would do. I got a call that they had a costume in mind for me and they wanted me on the show. And I was like new, new, now hard pass And when I asked myself, like, why am I passing on this? It was strictly out of fear. Fear of being made fun of, not sounding good, not having you know, my band and an auto tune mic and a backing track behind me singing live on national television. Again. I swore I would never do that, but then I was like, you know what, I want to face my fears. I want to raise my daughter to say yes to things that are outside of her comfort zone and to take chances, and if you fall, get back up, you get sent home the first night, you know what, leave them wanting more.

Good for you. That is a very smart and mature approach. And I'm sure you're thrilled now that.

You did do it. You were the bat.

Did you have an option of costumes or they said, you know what, here's the bat.

So they said, we have this costume in mind for you specifically, and here's why. Like your daughter's middle name is moon. Bats are nocturnal. I'm like, I'm just going to stop you right there. Bats are one of my favorite creatures of all time. So the fact that I don't even think my husband or mom know that it's just something I've always I loved vampire movies growing up, and I've always loved bats, but it's not something I've ever publicly talked about. So the fact that, I mean, I would have thought I would be like a rainbow unicorn or something with like sunshine, and so the fact that it was this like dark bat with the gold details everything, I was like, this is so perfect, and like these are my normal nails. I just I give bat energy on a regular basis. I like it. I like it.

So Halloween must be a big, big time year for you, right there, important time.

And this was all right around Halloween. So that was so fun too.

Fun fun, and you got skills.

Good for you. I didn't even know you saying, but you worked on the fun side hobby. You know. I love performing, but it's not something I've ever taken seriously. I'm not trying to get a Grammy. I'm not a trained, well at least not well trained vocalist, but I enjoy doing it. And you know what, I don't want to not do something that I enjoy doing that's fun because other people tell me to put the mic down. I'm like, no, I'm gonna keep picking it back up.

Yeah, yeah, I like that. I like that right on. And you also have a memoir on the way called My Good Side. Uh I do hey, look at that right over you shoulder there? What what are you? What are you talking about there?

What are you revealing everything? Which is terrifying but also so exciting because I feel like the mass Singer was my best kept secret of all time. But anything else that's maybe been kept secret in my life is all in this book. So part of me feels like this will be a free and moment that I'm just putting it all out there. It's all so scary though, to be completely raw and open and vulnerable. But I hope by sharing my story that I'm showing other people it's okay to go through these things. If I could go through it on a public platform, you can go through it in private. You know, you can open up to your therapist, your partner, your family, And I really hope people take away from this book some things that they can relate to and know that they're not alone. Nice.

Well, congrats on that. And you also have a weekly podcast called Shenanigans Shenanigan Janette, I like that clever title. You spell it with your name right there.

Thank you. I came up with that. It's one of the good things that I've come up with. Okay, And what do you talk about there? Honestly, everything depends on the week and the guest. Today. I have Danny Pellegrino on We're gonna recap last night, talk hot topics and all things. But it's just a really fun space for me to take control of my narrative that I haven't had for eleven seasons. On a TV show, which is another big reason why I wrote the book, because I'm like, unless you listen to my podcast, people just feel like this show is one hundred percent truth, that is the full story. And I'm like, you think you know, but you have no idea. There's so much more to me.

Yeah, and there's a lot of editing going on. Man, eleven seasons. I didn't realize it was it was that long. And you've left the show, correct, we it.

Got rebooted, so got it. That was a choice.

Yeah, yeah, I mean that's a hell of a run though, that's a great.

Yeah, eleven seasons I never could have imagined honestly.

And you mentioned your daughter.

I know your mom.

How old is she?

Know? She'll be four in April. It's fun, isn't it? Yes, it is such a fun age. And watching the show with her last night, she had no idea until that's the best, such a core memory and fun experience to just be able to watch that with her and to watch her be like, oh my god, like you're the bat. That's great.

And you know it's funny because the few times I think I've ran into you have been at Charger games.

Yes, so you've been a Charger fan. Yes, I'm a big Charger. He with the bull. I love it. See you got taste my whole life. I've been a Chargers fan. I've got season tickets front row. I'm now at the thirty yard line. Yeah, I'm like, let's let's move to the front row. I will be there every home game.

I am fired about this next season.

Cool.

I look forward to seeing you there. Meanwhile, everyone, please be sure to catch a new season of The Mass Singer Wednesday nights on Fox, and be on the lookout for she Anda's new memoir My Good Side, which is dropping this summer.
