There are renewed calls on the Government to treat road deaths as a national emergency.
It comes as Donegal and Dublin are the two counties with the highest level of road deaths this year.
Road deaths nationally have risen by 11pc this year on the same period in 2025 as five more people died over the weekend including the death of Donegal man Aaron Friel following a crash in Inishowen on Saturday night.
There have been two road fatalities in County Sligo and in County Leitrim so far this year.
Independent Cllr Marie Casserly previously wrote to the Taoiseach and several Ministers over the issue and says a range of measures need to be urgently introduced:
