Some elderly people in the North West have to travel 20 miles to collect their pension, the Dail has heard. 

Numerous post office closures across the region are to blame with over 30 closures across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal over the last ten years. 

The Government is advancing the Postal and Telecommunications Services Bill to provide €15 million per annum in enhanced funding to sustain the post office network. 

But speaking in the Dail, Sligo Leitrim Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says it's too little too late for many with rural communities now left behind:
