As the news continues to ramp up and varying commentary is shared, it creates the question to those sitting in privilege, ‘how aware are you?’ Bec and Zoe speak with Alana Kennedy, Founder & CEO of Ochre Sun, an ethically sourced SPF Sunscreen made from Native Australian Botanicals, with an all Indigenous supply chain, who walks us through her journey in embracing her heritage, stepping away from the corporate world to return and contribute to her community.

“Cultural Competency” with Alana Kennedy

What has previously been a generally ignored stage in a woman’s life is now coming more and more to the forefront - peri-menopause and menopause, thanks to the committed work of incredible Doctors like Dr. Fatima Khan AKA The Menopause Specialist.

Dr. Khan not only has a profound understanding of the science, and medical cause and effect of menopause, but is also a woman that strongly advocates for this stage of a woman’s life to be more widely understood by society and our community because the ripple effects go well beyond the symptoms.

Statistics such as 1 in 10 women end up leaving their roles in the workforce because their symptoms from menopause become unmanageable, in-turn meaning the representation of women in senior management roles reduce, and the gap between men and women in leadership roles broadens.

There are so many more examples of these ripples effects, and when 50% of the world population will experience this which equates to 1 Billion women in 2025, it’s infuriating that it’s not more acknowledged.

But that being said, whilst Dr. Khan knows all the treatment options and supports women medically, it’s her understanding of what’s required in the holistic aspect that reminds us yet again, it’s taking the time to hit pause - review how you are feeling but also how you are living, for you and in-turn for your health.

“Recap our Olympic fever and Ramble on our much needed girls staycay!”

Michael Wipfli, affectionately known as ‘Wippa’, is one of Australia’s favourite funny guys. Host of the incredibly popular Nova Breakfast radio show, TV Personality and a loved all round family man.  But whilst Wippa makes nearly every person he meets laugh with his quick wit and self-deprecating humour, and he has mastered the ability to create connection and bring joy, it doesn’t always mean that what is happening within, is the same as the light-heartedness that he projects. 

Michael has been brave enough to previously share his vulnerabilities publicly, including his uncomfortable early overnight development as a kid going through puberty and his mental health challenges as an adult. Now a husband and a father whose children will soon be entering into the next phase of their childhood, Michael is faced with supporting them through not only the highs and lows of adolescence that he once experienced, alongside the possibility that they may meet their own mental health challenges, but this time he knows it’s with the added pressure of social media. 

Spearheading and co-founding the issue at its core with 36 Months, a nation-wide petition to change policy and delay the age that kids can gain access to social media platforms by 36 months from 13 to 16 years old.  Michael and his co-founder Rob Galluzzo are determined to give kids the chance to manage those terrific, yet at times, terrifying years of puberty, back to families without the layered pressure of social media until their better equipped with the maturity that comes with age, to cope with the highs and lows that social media brings.
