Northern Tasmania in Conversation about The Voice

View descriptionShare

The University of Tasmania invited The Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Linda Burney MP, local Indigenous leader Nick Cameron, the Federal Member for Bass, Bridget Archer MP, and former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein for a discussion on The Voice referendum, moderated by the Vice Chancellor Professor Rufus Black.

In 2017, the Uluru Statement from the Heart set out an agenda for Voice, Treaty and Truth agreed by national Indigenous leaders. In 2023, Australians will have the chance to vote to recognise the First People’s rights, history and ongoing relationship with the land, and to ensure they are consulted on laws and policies that affect them.

Conversations are now being held with communities across Australia to learn more about the process and opportunities.

This is a recording of the discussion held on Monday 10th July 2023 at the University Library - Inveresk in Launceston.

Duration: 1 hr 28mins.
