Known as "V-Label" - the accreditation will work similar to a Halaal certificate for example - making it easier for consumers to identify vegan options and trust that they are truly vegan. Director of local food awareness NGO ProVeg South Africa, Donovan Will says this landmark move will hopefully inspire more interest in plant-based food locally. Will says he's confident that South Africans will embrace the new options not just for their quality, but for the positive impact these products have on the planet...

By Newsbreak Producer Taliesha Naidoo - Eligible voters wanting to apply for a special vote have until the 3rd of May to do so. A special vote allows a registered voter to apply to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to vote on a predetermined day before election day. Those applicable to apply for a special vote are registered voters who cannot travel to their voting station because they are physically infirm, disabled or pregnant, or are unable to vote on election day. The IEC's Hlengiwe Dlamini explains the process....

*You can apply for a special vote by SMSing your identity number to 32249 (R1.00 per SMS) or by visiting your local IEC office and submitting an MEC 35 form. Forms can only be hand-delivered, but someone else can deliver your completed form on your behalf.

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service remained on high alert overnight as a number of hotspots along the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) were still ablaze and being monitored. The blaze which started at the weekend after a lightning strike, was contained to a certain extent as some areas remained difficult to reach due to terrain issues. Some of the hotspots include the lower slopes of Constantia Nek and the Kirstenbosch Gardens in the Cape Peninsula. TMNP spokesperson, Lauren Howard-Clayton several people were evacuated while some hiking trails have been closed until further notice while assessments are being conducted...
