Daily Dilemma: 'Instagrammable Relationship' trap

My partner, Thabo, and I have been together for five years, and honestly, we're really happy. We have our inside jokes, our quiet moments, and our adventures. But lately, I feel this massive, unspoken pressure – especially from my friends and what I see on social media – to constantly show how happy we are online.

Every weekend, it's 'Where are your couple pics?' or 'Why don't you post more about your adventures?' I see other couples on Instagram, living this seemingly perfect, curated life of romantic dinners and exotic holidays, and I constantly feel like we're falling behind. I've even caught myself planning activities based on how 'Instagrammable' they'll be, just to have something to post.

But then, the minute we start trying to get that perfect shot, the magic's gone. We're arguing about lighting, or if my smile looks natural, or why Thabo isn't 'performing' for the camera. And the real, messy, beautiful moments – the ones where we're truly connecting – they never make it online because we're just living them.

My dilemma is: do I keep trying to play this social media game, posting more to keep up appearances and get that external validation, even if it feels superficial and sometimes causes tension between us? Or do I just completely step back, protect our private space, and risk being seen as 'unhappy' or 'boring' by our friends, just to preserve the authentic connection we have when the phone is away?
