They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that beauty is turning into a new marketing opportunity for Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association.

Curt Larson, President and CEO of Equity Livestock says their acquisition of the former United Livestock Center in Maquoketa, Iowa, is coming along as they focus on replacing scales and updating fences.

The facility in Iowa marks the 12th full-service market that Equity Cooperative Livestock is operating around the Midwest - its second in Iowa.

The yard was owned by Tom Scheckel for 25 years and operated as a livestock yard for the first 10.  He said he'd been renting the facilities out for the past 15.

Larson said he's anticipating having the refurbished facilities ready for business by sometime this fall.

The Wisconsin beef industry includes not only cow/calf producers, feedlot operations, and breeding operations - but it also includes the depth of Wisconsin's dairy industry since many of those cows, steers, and calves will ultimately become a part of the beef industry.

The farm bill discussion continues on capitol hill. And among those keeping a close eye on policy is the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Association Vice president of Government Affairs Ethan Lane says some of the key things they’re keeping an eye on are critical policy priorities, including the farm bill, tax policy, and emerging issues like lab-grown meat.

Part of the Wisconsin Farm Center, the Herd-Based Diagnostics Program helps Wisconsin dairy herds of all sizes and management types. The HBDP provides veterinary consulting and diagnostic testing services to Wisconsin dairy farmers, including issues related to stray voltage.​

Available at no cost to program participants, the Farm Center's licensed HBDP veterinarian helps producers investigate concerns with milk production, milk quality, herd health, and more, says Dr. Lynae Schott.

Wedding barns are popular hosts for events across the state but now their future is in doubt.  Pam Jahnke talks to Lucas Vebber, deputy counsel for WILL, Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty in Milwaukee.  He's representing two wedding barns that say a new law that will take effect in 2026 violates the state's constitution.

Recycling wind turbine blades isn't an easy fete but a company in Ohio is working on it.  Brian Donahue with Canvus explains how they turn the blades filets into works or art and practical outdoor furniture for communities.Ashley Huhn from the Steffes Group speaks with Pam Jahnke about an upcoming construction equipment auction.  Paid for by Steffes Group.

WI Senator Joan Ballweg explains why they launched an effort to override the governor's veto of PFAS legislation that would restore $125 million in state funding for clean up.  PFAS that end up in municipal waste facilities are sometimes land spread on farm ground.  That contaminates the ground and also, potentially, the groundwater and private rural wells.
