രാജഭരണകാലം തൊട്ടു ഭരണകാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ ശക്തമായ ഇടപെടല്‍ നടത്തിയിരുന്ന പ്രദേശമാണ് കഴക്കൂട്ടം. ജനാധിപത്യ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുകളുടെ കാലത്ത് സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന് ഒരു മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയെ സമ്മാനിച്ചതും കഴക്കൂട്ടമാണ്. തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ രാജ്യകാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്തു ശുപാര്‍ശകള്‍ നല്‍കാന്‍ ചുമതലപ്പെട്ടവരാണു കഴകങ്ങള്‍. ആ കൂട്ടമാണ് കഴക്കൂട്ടമായതെന്നാണ് സ്ഥലനാമ ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍. ആ കഴക്കൂട്ടം കേരളത്തില്‍ കരുത്തേറിയ ത്രികോണമത്സരം നടക്കുന്ന മണ്ഡലമാണിപ്പോള്‍. പോഡ്കാസ്റ്റ് അവതരണം – രാജീവ് നായർ 
 

Kazhakkoottam is a region that has had a strong involvement in administrative matters since the period of monarchy. It was also Kazhakkoottam that gifted the state a Chief Minister during the era of democratic elections. The 'Kazhakams' were those entrusted with discussing and recommending matters of the kingdom in Travancore. Historians of place names suggest that Kazhakkoottam originated from this group.
