In 2014, the Central Government sought to curb the judiciary's influence by establishing the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC)- only for the Supreme Court to strike it down. Yet, the executive branch continues to exert significant sway over judicial appointments in both High Courts and the apex court.
