By Newsbreak Producer Hoosen Ebrahim - KwaZulu-Natal's conservation authorities have warned that elephant numbers in several provincial game reserves have exceeded the ecological carrying capacity of the land. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife says more than 1,000 elephants need to be relocated to prevent further damage to biodiversity and sensitive habitats. The conservation agency says relocation remains its preferred option but has cautioned that culling could become unavoidable if other solutions cannot be implemented. Ecologists say the growing elephant population is placing increasing pressure on vegetation, water resources and other wildlife.
