The South African Medical Association Trade Union is calling on government to urgently employ these doctors, describing the situation as both a healthcare crisis and an injustice to local graduates. The call comes as ActionSA questions Gauteng Health's reported spending of more than 600-million-rand a year on foreign health care professionals. SAMATU argues that hiring unemployed local doctors would ease pressure on the country's overstretched public health system.
