Tributes are pouring in for retired KwaZulu-Natal Judge President Achmat Naeem Jappie who passed away this morning. He was laid to rest at the 45th Cutting Soofie Mosque in Sherwood, Durban- followed by a Zohr prayer 13h00. The late Judge President was a senior South African jurist who served in the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, based in Durban and Pietermaritzburg. He was appointed as a judge in the late 1990s after earlier work as an advocate, and later rose through the judicial ranks to become Deputy Judge President before being elevated to Judge President of the division in 2015. Tributes from the legal community describe him as a significant and respected figure in South African law.
