What happens when you refuse to let a disability decide the size of your dreams?

At just 25, Alex “Lexxi” Pasqualli is a master’s student, motivational speaker, content creator, parasport advocate and athlete. Born with the rare genetic condition Diastrophic Dysplasia, Lexxi has navigated a world that hasn’t always been designed with disability in mind, while building an impressive list of achievements along the way.

From graduating Cum Laude and making the Dean’s List throughout her undergraduate studies, to serving as Chairperson of UCT Parasports and completing her first Two Oceans half marathon, Lexxi continues to challenge perceptions of what people with disabilities can achieve.

We spoke to Alex about her journey, resilience, education, sport, accessibility and the importance of not allowing other people’s expectations to define your potential.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and while prostate cancer is something every man should be aware of, Black African men face a particularly high risk of developing the disease.

But beyond the statistics, there’s another conversation we need to have: why do men sometimes wait before getting something checked, and what role can the people who love them play in encouraging them to take their health seriously?

Jonathan Muthige knows this conversation personally. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 prostate cancer after noticing a subtle change following a game of golf. It was something that could easily have been dismissed, but his wife Nwabisa encouraged him to have it checked.

Today, Jonathan and Nwabisa are using their experience through the Factor of Ten Foundation to encourage more men to prioritise their health and have these conversations before there is a crisis.
