Morry Frenkel speaks with Professor Haitham Amal, the Satell Family chair and professor of brain sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and visiting professor at the Boston Children's Hospital, about his research on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He describes features of the disorder and discusses the genetic and environmental factors associated with it. Professor Amal also talks about exciting research that has led to the recent approval by the Food and Drug Administration (USA) for Phase 1 trials of a drug for an autism subtype. In addition to researching drugs for Alzheimer’s disease and some brain cancers, his team is also working towards a blood test for autism. To support this ground-breaking research, contact Professor Amal at: haitham.amal@mail.huji.ac.il
