Justine Bateman is cautiously optimistic on WGA-AMPTP deal ... even when it comes to artificial intelligence

View descriptionShare

We're starting to get some speculative details of the tentative contract worked out between studios and the writers of the WGA.

And specifically how both sides handled the especially delicate issue of artificial intelligence in Hollywood.

The new contract is expected to allow studios to retain the right to train artificial-intelligence models based on writers’ work.

But writers are getting guarantees that they'll be credited with the original work, AND get compensation for their script-writing, even if studios use AI on those scripts during the production process.

Justine Bateman is a producer, director, writer ... and happens to be a computer science major who closely follows AI development.
