The Fresno County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 on August 11 to file a lawsuit challenging AB 1923, a new California law that requires Fresno County to place a Measure C replacement transportation tax initiative on the November 2026 ballot. The supervisors supporting the lawsuit argue the law is unconstitutional and improperly interferes with local government authority.
A New York judge has ruled that the jury in the upcoming state murder trial of Luigi Mangione will remain anonymous, citing the extraordinary public attention surrounding the case. The judge also approved an overflow courtroom so additional members of the press and public can watch the proceedings if the main courtroom reaches capacity.
