About 83% of Americans, including roughly 71% of Democrats, support requiring photo ID to vote, per Pew Research—making it one of the most popular provisions in the GOP’s SAVE America Act.  However, Democrats say the broader legislation—including proof-of-citizenship requirements—amounts to modern voter suppression and liken it to Jim Crow laws. 

President Trump has nominated Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma), a former MMA fighter with a reputation as a hardliner on immigration, to serve as his next Homeland Security Secretary, replacing Kristi Noem. Mullin’s confirmation hearing is set for March 18, where both allies and critics will closely scrutinize his record on border enforcement, disaster response, and the ongoing DHS shutdown.
