The Alameda 4th of July parade became political

A dangerous heat wave is scorching many western states in the U.S. In the Bay Area temperatures reached up to 111 degrees, but a cool down is expected this week.

Meanwhile, places like Death Valley have maintained temperatures over 120 degrees daily with no significant cool down in sight.

Death Valley reaches a hot 128 degree temperature this weekend

The winner of the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest ate a total of 58 hot dogs in 10 minutes. This would equal to about 5 or 6 hot dogs a minute.

Although it is a yearly tradition dating back to the 70's, it begs the question how are they able to eat so much, and what does this do to their gut heath?

With the Tour de France underway and the Olympics just around the corner, there's been renewed focus on some "older" athletes such as cyclist 39 year old Mark Cavendish and champion gymnast Simone Biles who is 27 respectively, would once have been considered well past their competitive prime.

 Instead of retiring many older athletes are still managing to compete and win at the highest levels of their sports.
