Blog—September 2, 10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show-the first Ag Show in September set the trend for my birth-date-month—with some topics that touched a lot of key players who make quite the difference in South Dakota.
We started with Chuck Sutton—Mr. Auction--- as we like to do following one of our Report Card or Remodelers Show—sharing trends in real estate---land sales---and people making a change.
Sir Sutton---was telling us how busy the auction action is---he had booked 8000 acres specially for September and October. Of that 5500 acres between Presho and Winner in Tripp and Mellette County.
He was working with an old friend Scott Shhuman—a past National Auctioneers Association President affiliated with Hall and Hall Auction company.
A lot of acres in South Dakota including Minnehaha, Moody Lincoln and other in South Dalot too.
As Sutton pointed out—It is September and the time with harvest rolling around ---more and more auctions will be going—something we’ll keep an eye on and ask Mr. Auction about—at least once a month.
Of course having farm interests in mind—I wanted to know how the crop prices, tariffs, and so-called good ole bill from DC are in play.
While we were talking we were peaking in as well with Mr. Lincoln County Jim Schmidt---as it turned out---we had a state-wide issue that was being discussed involving Governor Rhoden--- and all the talk he was sharing on a new State Prison------Lincoln County of course has been part of the discussion----along with other territories in South Dakota---
What is being raised--- is the alarms about the operations Department of Correction has had under the Rhoden Administration. Representative Tim Reisch—former Adjutant general of the National Guard, Secretary of Corrections and Sheriff—raised operational concerns in chapter-and-verse months ago. The Rhoden Administration responded with general denials and no apparent improvements—something Reisch called the wrong approach and at a time that accountability and a restoration of trust should happen not with blinders on and obvious blame-shifting.
Commissioner Schmidt—gave his honest take—and in essence all of us need to take time for accountability to restore trust.
Our friends from Plains Commerce Bank joined us--- yes they are the planners—whether it be agriculture, business or newly married couples or those with silver or golden years behind them. Plains Commerce offers support and answers to help plan regardless of the directions.
Sarah Heinrich provided the Growing Harvest Network—yes we do accept North Dakotans on our ag show---but what else can you do with your sister station. Yes we smile and learn as she talks daily.
Matt Swenson had the morning commodities—something he does mid-morning in our Agri-Business Show.
We did a follow up with two of our friends that worked with us extensively last week preparing for the South Dakota Fair---Candi Briley---Fair Friend and Gerry Eide---FFA of South Dakota. We prepared all last week with members of the FFA—and Candi’s Camp for the Fair and all that is agriculture. They did a follow-up today. The plan is to look now to the 50th anniversary event coming in 2026. Yes we’ll help anyway we can. We enjoy the guests that were lineup---and how they treated us with kindness, coffee, and even a little pastry.
We talked with John Ball about the trees with leaves and limbs coming down. The SDSU Professor talked thru what we were seeing and where.
While we were talking about continuing our Work with Tree and yes HIS TREES all over the state….we started working on another project with our friends from Sanford International. Tenny Snyder---gave us dates to follow as the Senior Stars get ready to make their run to Sioux Falls Country Club---next week. We’ll follow along---and hopefully give them all the support we can.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—is available live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—or you can listen to the Podcast on our KELO-AM website.
Norm Anderson posts the podcast—my job is to schedule the guests, prepare the communication, and eventually write this blog.
