    Our It’s YOUR Business Show has been a lot of places----but surprisingly ---this is the first time we have been LIVE at the South Dakota State Fair. I was talking our well-known Country Station host Chris Carter—and he see they have been there either.

 

    So today—for 2 hours we will be live with the help of The Fair’s Candi Briley—and South Dakota Farmers Union.

 

     The show includes some of the segments from our usual Friday 9 and 10 shows—along with the mix from the State Fair Grounds in Huron.

 

      So in the 9:00---

      Candi Briley—shares the events of the day---what to do—and how to do it

      Doug Sombke—SDFU President—along with Executive Director Karla Hofhenke—share some of their activities---with Saturday being Farmers Union Day---

      There’s the Farmer’s Share luncheon---just 35 cents—the amount farmers would get from the lunch that is served—a sandwich chips and a drink

       Rural Dakota Pride Honoree presentation

       Panel Discussion –Strengthening SD’s Beef industry

       Farm Safety Bowl with the 4 School Finals—in a Quiz Bowl

       And importantly—a Farm Safety Trailer---that travels South Dakota.

 

       Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business –always shares with she has covered for the week---and this week—the 1.5 billion in permits—with 400 million last month---

       New additions to downtown –candle company that is coming downtown too…

 

       Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota---how inflation is impacting every household—and how to get smarter with grocery shopping---sales—getting better rates for insurance, cable and even—credit card interest.

 

        Each Friday—South Dakota Game Fish and Parks joins us---and Nick Harrington and Chris Hull joins us from the Fairgrounds—updating the Tuesday GFP Meeting—which looked at Good Earth State park. They are on the Fairgrounds for the event—and they’ll share what is important for you to see.

 

        Rocky Forman---Farmers Union Safety Man in motion shares their trips to schools and events—and how they preach getting their safely.

 

         Dr. Allen Unruh—Dr Neuropathy we call him—shares a guest from Chamberlain that turned to him—with serious body concerns---his treatments helped this gentleman—get some peace and be able to move far better. We talk with Glen Mayer who had living with Neuropathy for 10 years.

 

          We’ll visit as well with Kodi Blotsky---South Dakota Farmers union Family of the month. Her story fits with all those going to the Fairgrounds.

 

    In our 10;00 hour---Candi Briley---and FFA’s Gerri Eide start us out---Candi on the 137th Annual Fair---and the Day’s activities---Gerri---on the 400 members that will be at the Fair—and the projects they are involved in. It’s community by community, school by school and Gerri for 2 or almost 3 decades has been helping kids understand Ag---get set to perhaps pick up higher education in an Ag Field—or one that can help those in the state’s number one industry—AGRICULTURE.

 

   You’ll meet Mary Jacobs—RDP honoree----her Farmers Union story is amazing—helping those that need help and giving them a special help along the way. The story left me with a few tears in my eyes.

 

   With Senator Mike Rounds joining Mr. Sombke and Karla Hofhenke we talk about some important issues in Agriculture at the Sate Fair..

 

o   Fairness for Farmers

  • Establish special investigator for Meat and Poultry at USDA
  • Enact the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act
  • Re-establish COOL (Country of Origin Labeling)
  • Strengthen Packers and Stockyards Act
  • Right to repair

o   Inflation Reduction Act

  • Ensure implementation of $500 million infrastructure investment in biofuels

o   Farm Bill Priorities

  • Maintain robust farm safety net (commodity and programs, crop insurance, access to credit.)
  • Expand on disaster programs
  • Build upon conservation programs that have common sense and incentive
  • Foster a strong and resilient local/regional food system
  • Enact Dairy Revitalization Plan

   Stephanie Cavene is from a 4-H Family—she talks about loving your chores on the farm is about hard and work and preparation kids put in through the summer with their 4-H projects.

 

    Hank and Melissa Wonnenburg—will be on the road to DC –with the South Dakota Farmers Union fly-in. They tell us why this is so important—and the discussions they want to have with leaders in the Nation’s Capital—

 

    Friday mornings South Dakota State Fair opened with a news conference engaging some of those in agriculture –looking at ways to bring some of those ag workers here from Ukraine. One of those that was part of the news Conference—was Alla—who lived in Ukraine—and has been in South Dakota for 10 years. Her parents are still there—her sisters just moved here from Ukraine. Alla has been our link to the events in Ukraine on our Friday shows since March 10th---she does that this morning.

 

    Our coverage from the South Dakota State Fair—is really a big deal to our Midwest Communication Team---and to our Business and Ag Business Show. We hope we have been able to shed a little light on a great event—and would like to do it in the future as well.
