Blog---April 1, 2025—9-10---It’s YOUR Business
Our It’s YOUR Business Show on this 1st day of April---had a chance to talk about a busy schedule and lots of opportunities to be engaged.
It was veto day on Monday in Pierre—so we wanted to know what was discussed and more about the Tax Relief Program that Governor Rhoden announced—depending on what the counties would decide.
In essence each county would have the choice to add a sales tax of up to 0.5%--with the money from this tax going directly to reduce property taxes for homeowners living in that county.
County commissioners would decide whether to add the sales taxVoters could request a public vote on the planAll money would go into a Property Tax Reduction FundThe funds would first reduce taxes for owner-occupied homesIf all homeowner taxes are paid off, leftover money would help other property types.
In Minnehaha County if a $325,000 home is the property---the savings would be $967 annually. This represents about 21-22 percent of the total tax bill for these homes.
The Governor highlighted this approach would capture tourism dollars to help local homeowners.
We talked with Christy Vantenhout---McCrossan Boys Ranch about their event coming up Thursday at the Sioux Falls Arena.
She calls it a dazzling evening packed with jaw-dropping entertainment including mesmerizing Cirque-style performances-mind blowing magic and a show stopping tribute to Elvis himself.
It is a chance to help the boys---with a fabulous meal—Vegas-worthy photo ops and bid if you like on exclusive items during the evening live and silent auctions all while supporting a life-enchanting cause.
We’ll share more story lines tomorrow in the final show before the Thursday event.
Jeff Griffin—a long-time friend---during the month of March was given a big award that put him in a exclusive club we should all be proud of. Jeff was one of 16 new executives that joined the Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100 nation-wide.
We talked about what he saw—how he believes it will Sioux Falls---and give us more exposure in the years ahead.
The Committee report that the appointments reflect their continued dedication to naming diverse, high-profile leaders to serve on this important committee.
We plan to talk to Mr. Griffin once a month (more often if it is news-worthy) to talk about what’s he learning and what he is sharing about Sioux Falls.
Gerri Eide—FFA of South Dakota continued to introduce us to the “Stars” of FFA across South Dakota. We like to talk these young people about their future plans and why they really want to stay on the farm and make a difference in the next generation.
Our It’s YOUR Business Show---shares the opportunity for our guests to have their stories told and heard by our audience. I enjoy them—I hear the audience enjoys them and we want them to help showcase for others growing up---what staying in the rural area can be about.
