Blog----March 31, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business---
Our last show for the March and the last day of the first quarter of the year—was quite the Agriculture Show. Of course agriculture is the #1 industry in South Dakota and it deserves a show of it’s own.
In this show---we did a segment with Casey Crabtree—who began the legislative session with us—and ends with us.
The key issue-one more day of fun and game legislative games. We have followed along with not only Casey but I’m guessing a dozen to 20 others that were asked to appear on our Business and Agri Business Show.
It was VETO day at the capital---and the session began at 1PM---a few hours after the interview(s) ran in our 9-10 and 10-11 shows.
HB 1169—a bill modifying signature requirements for constitutional amendment petitions is the only measure up for an override attempt. It would require initiators to obtain signatures in each of the state’s 35 legislative districts. Before the regular session ended on Day 37 earlier in March, the House could not overturn Rhoden’s Veto of HB1132, which would have expanded childcare tuition assistance for childcare workers. Following the veto session, attention will turn to future legislative priorities. At 3PM the Legislature’s Executive Board will review summer study proposals. Including the state brand board, cryptocurrency, state sales tax exemptions, weather anomalies, and expanding in state meat production. The E-Board is expected to only approve 3 of the proposed 3 topics. The Governor signed more than 200 bills into law in the 100th legislative term.
Jerry Schmitz---SD Soybeans and Danita Murray—SD Corn---gave us their thoughts on what to expect now that the legislative session has ended on this day. They each had their own ideas----and they are hoping that the Good Lord will help us in the month of April and BEYOND.
Nolan Clarke---Plains Commerce Bank—proved again they are the planners---we talked about farmers, business, the newly married, and the seniors looking at tomorrow. They 8 or 9 Plains Commerce Banks help them plan—and we know that help is wanted more than it is offered—and we are happy to continue to make that point during the show to our audience and yes a reminder to Plains Commerce to keep on doing it.
Sarah Heinrich provided the growing harvest network----from our sisters at KFGO in Fargo. Matt Swenson had the morning commodities as well as the what was happening on Wall Street.
Gerri Eide—FFA of South Dakota---reminded us of the big events coming up Thursday -Friday-and Saturday at SDSU in Brookings. Passing that torch is important—showing sincere concern to the next generation---all part of the hundreds that will attend. We will follow along previewing on Wednesday—and doing live interviews from FFA on Friday. We have had the chance to meet so many FFA stars—and more during this last couple of weeks. We’ll continue Tuesday and Wednesday—and Friday too.
Stephanie Holman---MBA PMP-President CEO talked with us about what won her a SD state Honor.
In this show we talked about FourFront, revealed her military background, Success Stories for FourFront—as well as how she became involved.
Winning an award for Veteran Owned Small Business was truly a great story for us to tell—and we’ll continue to do that as often as we can.
Rock Nelson provided the Rock Report –but without a guest---we talked about 2 international trade specialists coming to Sioux Falls---what they do ---how they do it---and how Rock helps with what they do. Interesting story and I’m sure you want to go on line to listen to the Podcast---on what they did—and how Rock was a part of it.
John Ball—yes Mr. Tree joined us---we talked about the squirrels invading or at least leaving their mark in our trees. A bit surprising—but this is a story only John Ball can make sense with it.
Laura Edwards—South Dakota State Climatologist---talked about the lack of moisture but the chance that April could be a bit wetter. Farm folks want the moisture—they want it to catch up as much as they can before they start planting season—which isn’t that far away.
Snow still possible---but any moisture is now appreciated.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is available live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App---Streaming on line –or just ask Alexa.
Norm Anderson will post the podcast within 24 hours of the show. I schedule the guests---prepare their commentary with my questions---and make sure that we fit the show in the spots we have planned. I do write the blog---attach it to the Podcast---and gives those that heard the show but want more information as well as those that want to check it out---to be able to do that.
