Blog-October 12, 2021—10-11—SDFU Show

Once a month on the 2nd Tuesday ---South Dakota Farmers Union works with our It’s YOUR Business Show—to put together a show that we carry live---SDFU posts on their WEBSITE----and bring leaders from around the country to talk issues that affect the thousands that are part of this Farmers Union.

Today---President Doug Sombke joins us in studio—along with Luke Reindl---who works with SDFU and with us in pulling together the Starting Lineup!!!

Mr. Sombke---joins us after some trying times with his health—thanks to a bout with COVID---some trying times on his land----and even his son and his animals for the hunting season were eliminated.

We are happy he is back with us---and one of the concerns is a push to get help for those cattlemen feeling still ambushed by 4 cattle processors that are controlling prices---and its not in the favor of our cattle producers.

We’ll hear from Scott Blubaugh who attended and testified in DC –Blubaugh is an Oklahoma Cattle Producers---and is President of the Oklahoma Farmers Union.

Joining us in the show—is Paul Symens—an Amherst SD Farmer—former SDFU Board member, State Legislator and part of Farmers Union Industries… we’ll talk about October being National Coop Month---Symens is tied to the SD Coop Association—and a Hall of Fame Inductee.

Our discussion will be about how vital Coops are to rural South Dakota.

As we start the 2nd half of the show---you’ll meet a husband wife West River Farm Team—that talk about the challenges they have in 2021---but how they look for the sunlight and plough forward. In addition the Donald Melling Farm Family give it their all not only for SDFU but their needs in their small town.

Quite the husband and wife team---and perhaps all of us will learn a lesson from them.

Meanwhile—Anthony Bly---is tied to SDSU—he is quite the Harvest Reporter---living and working in the Garretson-Sioux Falls region. He gives us a crop scenario—and even compares all of the challenges in 2021 to a year a few years ago. Mr. Bly knows what he’s talking about---and we got him to share.

Mitch Richtor---SDFU Lobbyist---has been keeping a weary eye on those lawmakers—on what they are doing to re-carve districts---the amendments that were passed---and what lies ahead for the rest of 2021 and the 2022 legislative year.

We’ll close the show with Laura Edwards---South Dakota State Climatologist. Laura is able to take our questions and frankly talk about conditions in any corner of South Dakota. What will she share today ---on conditions for finishing the harvest----and perhaps getting some of the fall work done before the snows and ice of winter coming barreling down our Plains.

Our South Dakota Farmers Union show reflects the work of those thousands of members across the state---what they are doing on the farms—to help those in agriculture---and all of us in the Rushmore State.

You can listen live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—or Streaming on Line. The full show is available on the SDFU Website.

Feel free to use these notes---this roadmap to what is in the show---to help you find specifically what you are looking for.

Thanks for listening---and caring about those in Agriculture---with the help of the South Dakota Farmers Union.
